How to Become an Emotionally Intelligent Leader

Leadership involves nurturing performance and empowering individuals to realize their full potential. Research highlights the crucial link between emotions and performance. By honing the ability to recognize and understand emotions—both in themselves and others—leaders can effectively inspire and uplift their teams to achieve exceptional results.

"Emotionally intelligent leadership is about leaders intelligently using emotions to facilitate high performance in themselves and others." Genos International

In the Genos Emotionally Intelligent Leader or Model of Emotionally Intelligent Workplace program, participants begin by taking a personal Genos EI Leadership, Self, or Workplace Assessment to evaluate their emotional intelligence (EI) skills in the workplace.

Through this program, leaders will enhance their understanding of emotions and emotional intelligence. They will engage in coaching sessions where they can explore and practice various tools and techniques for applying emotional intelligence in their leadership roles, ultimately fostering an environment that enables others to achieve high performance.

The Genos leadership and workplace models are based on over a decade of research into how effective leaders leverage emotional intelligence to successfully manage themselves and guide others.

The model includes six key competencies related to emotional intelligence in the workplace. While the first five competencies align with the leadership model, the specific skills assessed differ. These competencies represent skills and behaviors grounded in underlying abilities and experiences that are measurable, observable, and essential for achieving successful job performance.

The six Genos EI Workplace Competencies are:

Resilience is the ability to recover after facing adversity or obstacles in life. This skill is bolstered by self-awareness, which involves understanding our thoughts, feelings, and reactions. Emotional intelligence enhances self-awareness by promoting introspection and reflection. This process helps us identify our strengths, weaknesses, and triggers, ultimately improving our resilience.
